JH Wrestlers compete at Lancer Smith

Sixth through eighth grade wrestlers competed at the Lancer Smith Invitational 6-8 Youth Tournament last Friday at the Menard Center in Wasilla including wrestlers from the Yukon Kuskokwim region.

Winning gold was Bethel’s Maya Iverson in the girls 81 lb. division, she won against Daisyalynn Miller of Matmen. Maximos Lonewolf also of Bethel won first place defeating Kyler Johnson of the Chugach Eagles in the 105B boys division. Kaitlyn Wade of Bethel took 1st in the girls 136 lbs. weight class. Wade also placed 3rd in the girls 145 lb. bracket.

Scammon Bay’s Christian Chandler took home two medals – he placed second overall in the 114 lbs. competition. He also wrestled in the boys 118 lb. bracket and won the bronze medal.

Maya Iverson of Bethel, wrestling on the boys bracket, also won third place in the 77 lb. division. Her teammate Teil McIntyre also placed third in the boys 84 lbs. bracket. Bethel’s Claire Dyment took 6th in the boys 98 lb. division.

Carl Cleveland of Quinhagak also wrestled in the boys 174 lb. division winning the bronze medal.

Rose Rivers of Bethel wrestling in the girls 89 lbs. bracket won the silver medal. Dyment also participated in the girls 104.5 lbs. division, placing 5th overall. Teammate Rebekah Carmichael took 6th place in the girls 113 division.

Bethel’s Claire Lee placed 2nd and Isabelle Kerr placed 3rd in the girls 120 lbs. weight class. Isabella Fitka, also of Bethel took 2nd in the 155 lb. girls bracket for the silver medal.

Varsity and JV wrestlers also had events at the Lancer Smith Invitational.
