Senate District S Update

by Senator Lyman Hoffman

Happy first Friday of April!

Its day eighty-one at the capitol. The Senate Finance committee met on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week to hear bills working their way through the Legislature. Wednesday we heard and held SB 28 Workplace Violence Protective Orders, SB 181 Child Placement; Diligent Search, SB 228 Extend the Board of Massage Therapists, SB 234 Extend the Marijuana Control Board. Thursday in Finance the committee moved SB 228 out of committee and will be heading to Senate Floor for a vote. On Friday committee heard the first draft on SB 187 Capital Budget.

On Thursday, the legislature met with a crowd of Highschoolers from Juneau and across the state regarding the vote on the veto override. I want to thank all the students who took the time to make their voices heard. Don’t forget to register to vote when you turn 18! Education has always been a top priority for my office. Though SB 140 is officially dead, the war over proper education funding is still alive.
