Senate District S Update

Good Morning

Today is day ninety five of the 120-day session. This week the Senate Finance committee closed out the University subcommittee budget. Tuesday SB 168 Compensation For Wrongfully Seized Game and SB 215 Teachers: Board Certification Incentive were heard in committee and held for a further day.

Wednesday was a big bill day in Senate Finance. The committee moved: CSSB 151 Missing/Murdered Indigenous People; SB 118 Critical Natural Resources; SB 236 Grants To Disaster Victims, SCR 10 Joint Legis Seafood Industry Taskforce, SB 183 Workers’ Comp Benefits Guaranty Fund, SB 189 Extend The Commission on Aging, SB 205 AHFC Authority to Acquire Building out of committee and will be heading for the Senate Floor.

Thursday morning Senate Finance moved CSSB 259 (FIN) Compensation for Certain State Employees. Friday Alaska Primary Care Association presented on Federally Qualified Health Centers Payment Methodology. The Association is asking for 15 million to cover services provided since 2016. The Alaska Primary Care Association is made up of 29 Federally qualified health centers. Half of those centers are Tribally operated and maintained.

Two opportunities for involvement with the organization have been announced. Community Workshop Proposals for Annual Statewide Elders and Youth Conference. Share your expertise and inspire others through interactive and informative workshops. Deadline to apply for community workshop proposals is May 1st 2024.

The second opportunity: Dance Groups for Annual Statewide Elders and Youth Conference. First Alaskans is calling all dance groups with a passion for cultural expression and performance to showcase their talents at the Annual Statewide Elders and Youth Conference. Deadline to apply for Dance Groups is May 1st 2024.
