The Bethel Regional Jr. High Lady Warriors and boys Team A are the champions from this past weekend’s basketball tournament at the WarriorDome. Boys and girls teams attending included the Gladys Jung Cranes, Ayaprun Elitnaurvik Carayiit, Akiachak Huskies, the Akiak Thunderbolts, the Kalskag Grizzlies, and the Aniak Halfbreeds.
Games started on Thursday, February 10th, 2022. On the girls’ bracket, the Akiachak Huskies defeated the Bethel Warrior Team B, the Akiak Thunderbolts won their game against the Kalskag Grizzlies, and the Aniak Halfbreeds beat Bethel Warrior Team A.
On Friday, games continued with Akiachak winning their game against Gladys Jung/Ayaprun Elementary and the Bethel A Team defeated Akiak on the winners bracket. On the consolation bracket Aniak defeated Kalskag and Akiak won over Bethel Team B.
Saturday’s games included the Bethel A Team defeating Akiachak in the semifinals. On the consolation side, the Gladys/Ayaprun team won three games in a row defeating Aniak, Akiak, and Akiachak – whom they had fallen to on Friday.
The championship was between Gladys/Ayaprun and Bethel Team A on Saturday night. Team A is the tournament champion.
On the boys bracket, the Akiachak Huskies won against Bethel Team B, the Kalskag Grizzlies defeated the Akiak Thunderbolts, and Bethel Team A – the eventual tournament champions – defeated the Aniak Halfbreeds on day 1 of the tournament.
On Friday, Akiachak advanced after defeating the Gladys Jung/Ayaprun team, and Bethel A defeated Kalskag. On the consolation bracket, Aniak defeated Akiak, Gladys/Ayaprun, and Bethel B Team (who had earlier defeated the team from Kalskag), and also Akiachak to make it to the championship with the Bethel A team.
The Bethel Team A won the tournament as the undefeated champions. Quyana to Bethel Regional High School for livestreaming the games.
