BRHS hosts Invitational Volleyball Tournament

The Bethel Warriors hosted a 2-day volleyball tournament this past Friday and Saturday. Teams from Hooper Bay, Valdez, Hutchinson (Fairbanks), and Anchorage Christian Schools converged at the WarriorDome for volleyball action. This is the first event that the Bethel Regional High School has hosting in over a year and safety precautions were in place.

Friday night’s games opened with the Bethel junior varsity team playing against the Hooper Bay Warriors. Bethel JV won all 3 matches. Next the Hooper Bay Warriors played the Bethel Warrior varsity team. The host team Bethel won all three matches.

The third game was between Bethel Junior High and the JV. The JV team won 0-2. Next the Anchorage Christian Schools (ACS) Lions took on the Hutchinson Hawks of the interior city of Fairbanks, the matches were 3-2 in ACS’s favor. The final game for Friday was between the Bethel Warriors and the Valdez Buccaneers. The Bucs won all three matches.

On Saturday the games started bright and early at 9am with short breaks for lunch and dinner. The Bethel JV took on their Warrior counterparts from Hooper Bay, 3-0. Bethel JV and JH played two sets with the JV winning both. The Bethel Warriors then met the Hooper Warriors again on the court, Bethel won 3-0.

Valdez defeated Hutchinson 3-0. Next the hometeam Warriors defeated the ACS Lions 3-0. Valdez continued their undefeated streak by winning against ACS 3-0. The finale game was between the Bethel Warriors and Hutchinson. Bethel won 3 and Hutchinson, 1.

The hometeam players were allowed two fans during the games. Mask wearing was mandatory for everyone who wasn’t on the court playing.

“Thank you to all the teams, coaches, parents, spectators, and volunteers for making this weekend and enjoyable one,” wrote BRHS Principal Alicia Miner. “We are all working together to make sure the tournament is safe and fun for our athletes. We hope you enjoy your stay and we look forward to hosting you again soon.”
