Bethel Warriors wrestling wins Mountain City Wrestling Invitational

The Bethel Warriors are victorious as the top team at last weekend’s Mountain City Wrestling Invitational (formerly Anchorage Christian School). Seward came in second place, Mt. Edgecumbe was third, Nikiski took fourth, and Haines took 5th place for the top 5. Teams from most of the top Division II competition from around the state were there, joining Bethel were: Seward, Mt. Edgecumbe, Nikiski, Haines, Delta, Eielson, Homer, Kenai, Valdez, Redington, Dillingham, Grace Christian, Nome, Wrangell, Sitka, Houston, New Stuyahok, Koliganek, Barrow, Quinhagak, Cordova, Petersburg, Hutchison, Bristol Bay, Mountain City, Aniak, Kotzebue, St. Mary’s, and Scammon Bay High School.

First place winners included Daylon Brown of Quinhagak (125 lbs.), Ellis Johnson of Bethel (160 lbs.). Aaron Mute of Bethel (130 lbs.) and Landon Burke (189 lbs.) brought home silver medals. Alvino Vasquez (119 lbs.) won a bronze. Quinhagak’s Brendon Brown (103 lbs.), Paul Dyment (135 lbs.) finished in fourth place. Bethel’s Aiden Crow (103 lbs.) and Ralph Steeves (119 lbs.) of Aniak, placed 5th overall. Brandon Ayapan (112 lbs.) and Jonathan Oscar (145 lbs.) both of Bethel placed 6th.
