The Alaska Schools Activities Association (ASAA) has released the 2023 Fall Wrestling Good Sport Recipients. Schools with 4 or more athletes, may select a student who exemplifies outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship throughout the Alaska high school wrestling season. Coaches chose the following athletes. Congratulations to all award recipients!
ASAA also recognized teams with the Sportsmanship Award, the Academic Award, and also the Individual Outstanding Wrestler Awards at the State Division II Wrestling Tournament that took place on December 15-16, 2023 as shown below.
The Lady Homer Mariners won the Sportsmanship Award for the Division II girls and Haines Glacier Bears won for the boys. The Colony High School Lady Knights won the Academic Award with their GPA of 3.76 and the Barrow Whalers won on the boys side with their GPA of 3.5. The academic award was presented by Donlin Gold. The Outstanding Wrestler Award was won by Kaytlin McAnelly of the Soldotna Stars, she won in the 132 lb. division. For the boys, Hunter Forshee of Seward won the award. He wrestled in the 130 lbs. bracket winning a gold medal.
