Akiak, Kotzebue join Bethel for homegames

This weekend’s basketball action featured varsity teams from Akiak and Kotzebue and the Bethel Warriors. The Bethel JV Warriors also played, plus junior high blue and gold teams.

Friday night the Bethel JV Warriors won 61-42 with the Akiak Thunderbolts. Kenneth Fox made 21 points, Keegan Thompson made 12, and Warren Nicholai Jr. shot 11. Additional scorers for the Warriors were Jayden Fredericks, Gunnar Fitka, Jeremiah Samuelson, and Dave Demata. Also playing for Bethel was Kemuel Latham and Zahcory Jacobs-McD.

For Akiak Deven George made 15 points, Quinton Kashatok had 13. Also scoring for the Thunderbolts were Elijah Jasper, Tyson Phillip, Davien Jasper, Alex Andrew, and Miracle Kellsall. Other players for Akiak included Anthony Ramos, Mathew Ivan, Karson Phillip, and Taylor Ruepong.

On Saturday, the Bethel JV Warriors also won their game with the Akiak Thunderbolts 75-37. Bethel’s Kenneth Fox scored 16, leading all Warriors in points. All JV Warriors scored shots during the game.

Quinton Kashatok and Deven George made double-digits for the Thunderbolts, 16 and 14 respectively. Also making buckets for Akiak were Elijah Jasper, Tyson Phillip, and Davien Jasper. Other players for Akiak included Anthony Ramos, Mathew Ivan, Karson Phillip, Alex Andrew, Taylor Ruepong, and Miracle Kellsall.

The Bethel Lady Warriors were victorious against their fellow conference counterparts from Kotzebue. The Lady Warriors won on Friday 65-24. Allie Alexie scored 23 points. Briella Herron scored 13 and Payton Boney had 12. Also making shots were Isabel Lieb, Kyana Harpak, Riley Boney, Ambrea Jackson, and Malinda Simon. Other players for Bethel included Julia Andrew, Hannah Leinberger, Ashlynn Lonewolf, and MaeLynn Fredericks.

For Kotzebue, Ashlynn Nelson scored 9. Her teammates Pauline McCall, Elizabeth Brown, and Mylie McConnell all made 5. Other players for the Lady Huskies were Xiimara Salazar, McKenzie Swanson, Melina Garcia, and Caris Nanouk.

On Saturday, the Lady Warriors won again 52-17. Allie Alexie scored 12, Briella Herron made 10. Also making buckets were Payton Boney, Isabel Lieb, Kyana Harpak, Ambrea Jackson, Malinda Simon, and MaeLynn Fredericks. Completing the roster for Bethel were Riley Boney, Julia Andrew, Hannah Leinberger, and Ashlynn Lonewolf.

The Kotzebue Lady Huskies Ashlyn Nelson scored 5. Pauline McCall, McKenzie Swanson, and Elizabeth Brown all made 4 in the contest.
