Wrestlers compete at Grace Christian Grizzly Shakedown

The Grace Grizzly Shakedown wrestling tournament took place this past weekend in Anchorage and several local area wrestlers competed in the event, including the Bethel Regional High School team.

Megan Nick of Nunapitchuk placed second overall in the girls 132 lb. bracket. Her teammates on the boys side who also wrestled included Isaac Wassillie, James Andrew, Jason Benn, and Tyson Nicholai.

Bethel’s Ashlynn Lonewolf placed third in the 126 girls varsity division. Also wrestling for the Bethel girls were Riley Boney and Valerie Evon.

For the boys, Jacob Carmichael, also of the Bethel Warriors took 2nd place in the 215 lb. weight class. His teammate Sheldon Smith of the Bethel Warriors placed 4th in the 125 lb. bracket. Other Bethel boys varsity wrestlers competing at the event included Jackson Iverson, Keegan Thompson, Nicholas Twito, Zahcory Jacobs-McDonald, and Greg Turner.

South Anchorage won the tournament, Soldotna took second, coming in third was Colony. The Bethel team took ninth overall.

Next up for the Warrior Wrestlers will be the Great Alaska Conference Tournament held at BRHS on December 8, 2023. The top two in each weight class will earn a berth to the ASAA State Wrestling Tournament the following weekend at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, AK, said Warrior Head Coach Darren Lieb.
