Alaska State Troopers received a report on August 22, 2023, at 1:03 am, of a shooting in the village of Alakanuk. Troopers from Emmonak responded to Alakanuk. Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation also responded. Initial investigation revealed that there was an altercation at a residence in Alakanuk and an adult male is deceased. UPDATE: Investigation by Alaska State Troopers determined that Kobe Cook, age 20 of Alakanuk, entered a residence and began fighting with an adult male. Another male in the residence, Josiah Chikigak, age 19 of Alakanuk, shot Cook multiple times. Cook left the residence and was transported to the clinic where he died as a result of his injuries. Further investigation led to the arrest of Josiah Chikigak on a charge of Murder II. Chikgak was arrested and remanded to Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel. Cooks body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage. Next of kin have been notified.
