State basketball opens with 1A/2A finals

This week is the exciting 1A/2A State Basketball finals in Anchorage to be held at the Alaska Airlines Center. For the girls it will be the top seeded Scammon Bay Eagles who will be playing the Tri-Valley Vikings who are from Healy. The Newtok Jaeger girls will play the #3 seeded King Cove T-Jacks. And St. Mary’s will play the #2 seeded Aniak Halfbreeds on opening day, Wednesday March 15th.

For the boys 1A matchups it’s going to be Aniak vs. top seed Ninilchik, Scammon Bay vs. Klawock, Alakanuk vs. Gambell, and the Coastal Conference champions the Chefornak Shamans vs. Hydaburg, the #2 seed.

In 2A girls action the Chevak Comets will play #1 ranked Bristol Bay and Dillingham will take on Nenana, the #2 seed in the state.

For the boys it’s the Unalakleet Wolfpack vs. the Cordova Wolverines. Good luck to all teams!
