Protection of private property

by Peter Twitchell

This is Peter Twitchell, lifelong citizen of Bethel. My family settled and lived in Bethel Alaska since time immemorial. I for one, although I live far from the city limits of Bethel, Alaska, still consider it my hometown and I’m tired of hearing the population in Bethel destroying entry ways to homes, breaking windows, and taking property they don’t own from those private homes.

Such has been the case from my Mother’s – Sarah Twitchell’s home on Watson’s Corner in Bethel where countless doors in the last three years have been removed, windows destroyed and broken, and property being taken from my Mother’s residence, which sits on Watson’s Corner at 211 3rd Ave.

My family in the Mat-Su Valley have called Bethel PD for assistance in removing homeless vagrants from 211 3rd Ave with zero results. Less than a year ago there was a fire set to a building owned by Betty Twitchell, another Bethel resident, and she has called numerous times since resulting in tears, and no help from the Bethel PD.

The system is broken somewhere in the municipality of Bethel. Where are our city councilmen and councilwomen? We need someone to make sure our citizens of Bethel, Alaska are safe today from destruction to homes and private property!

My personal question is where is the municipality and city council who are the city fathers to protect and enforce the laws of our community? Why is this destruction and disrespect to the citizens of Bethel allowed to continue? In the last few years my family has requested help with no results.

And now we are forced to go to court in the Mat-Su Valley to seek the help which hasn’t been honored in Bethel.

Proof of my family’s ownership of land in Bethel at Watsons corner is in the land disbursement and sales of the Moravian Church and in the City Planner’s office and land plats.

We need to make sure that the citizens of Bethel are safe today not just yesteryear. There should be a standard of behavior and respect, not just from the homeless who have lost direction, but also from everybody in charge in power in our fair city. Thank you.
