Grandma’s Wisdom

by Peter Twitchell

Our grandma Hannah Pitka used to tell us kids when we were about seven years old on up, and this included me and my first cousin Joe Woods Jr., not to get too wild or rambunctious and not to hurt each other, and others.

This is what Grandma Hannah said, “Assircaarluci, ilaci kenkurluki.”

“Be good to each other and others.”

We listened to Grandma, we never got too mischievious or rambunctious.

I always believed my Grandma about what she said about loved ones who passed on and were watching us from the spirit world. This truth about what the Ancients believed became a reality for me in 1989 after we buried Mom and laid her to rest at the cemetery.

I decided to go to Mom’s house at Watson Corner in Bethel just to feel the quiet and to feel her absence at home. Her house felt empty in the silence as I walked into the living room.

All of a sudden and unexpectedly a human hand came to rest on my right shoulder and squeezed. I wasn’t startled, I didn’t become afraid. I remained calm for five seconds and the hand that I could feel lifted off of my shoulder.

The memory that our Grandma Hannah used to tell us about past souls who were watching us from the spirit world came to my mind instantly.

Then I felt Mom’s presence and thought, she’s coming to say goodbye, I’m OK and I’ll be alright. Joy and happiness overcome my feeling of emptiness and loneliness.

I am feeling inspired and I am encouraged and hopeful this life of turmoil and disappointment in these turbulent times on this earth is not going to be our final destination!!

And inspired that some sunny day we will be souls reunited with our loved ones in a better place.
