Here is a recipe for everyone’s favorite – assaliaq by Colene LaPalm from the “Alaskan Grub Box” recipe book by Sis Laraux. So tasty and so good.
Assaliaq – Fried Bread
1 pkg. yeast
½ c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. sugar
½ c. Wesson oil
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 c. hot water
2 cold water
Mix yeast, lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon sugar and set aside while doing rest.
In large mixing bowl, combine Wesson oil, 1 cup sugar, salt, hot water and cold water (a lukewarm solution). Mix yeast mixture; add flour to mixture until dough consistency. Knead well. Add a little shortening over dough. Set until raised and workable. Cut dough into small shapes. Fry in hot oil, like donuts, until brown, turning or dough makes 2 loaves.
