Alexie of Kwethluk wins Holiday Classic

Alexie’s winning streak continues with 9th consecutive win

Raymond Alexie of Kwethluk is continuing his winning streak with his ninth consecutive win at last weekend’s 50-mile Holiday Classic sled dog race, sponsored by the Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee.

Alexie, who mushes with his Alexie Racing Kennel, crossed the finish line with a time of 4:14 to win $3,200 in prize money. Coming in second was Bethel’s Pete Kaiser. His time was 4:42. In third place close behind was Harry Alexie of Kwethluk, he finished in 4:45.

The Holiday Classic is the second race of the K300 racing season. Fourteen teams participated in the 8-dog limit event overcoming cold and windy conditions on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023. The race began on the Charles Family Lake at 11:00 AM with a mass start.

After leaving Charles Family Lake teams mushed overland to the north of Bethel towards the river. They descended onto the river trail above Schwalbe Island and continued on the trail to Akiachak. Between Akiachak and Akiak they turned around at the halfway point and returned to Bethel on the same trail.
