The 2023 “30th Annual” YK Delta Lifesaver Christmas Cookie Extravaganza was a great success Sunday, December 17th at the YK Fitness Center in Bethel.
30 bakers and Bethel cookie buyers raised $3,333 in 25 minutes for the YK Lifesaver Endowment Fund with Bethel Community Services Foundation. Cookies were sold by the pound but the Lifesaver fund also received $500 in donations during the sale.
Cookie buyers gathered early for the 2pm event and not even a crumb was left by 2:25pm.
The YK Lifesavers are grateful for so much support from the community. Every year Alaska Commercial Company and Swanson’s Store donate the containers for cookies This year Ayaprun Elitnaurviat provided the plastic food handler gloves and City of Bethel YK Fitness Staff provided space and help. Bethy Whalen at the Yupiit Cultural Center provided tables.
YK Lifesaver volunteers were Kathy Baldwin, Jill Hoffman, Eva Treat, Gwen Street, Michelle DeWitt, Cindy Andrecheck, Stacy Reardon and YK Fitness Center staff, Beverly Hoffman, YK Fitness Staff Daniel Snyder and David Chakuchin who helped with clean up, and Gary Baldwin and John McDonald for hauling tables with their wives.
