The Kuskokwim Corporation is entering the final phase of its Brighter Future Project. The program is bringing energy efficient lighting to the corporation’s Shareholders. As the final step, TKC is sending LED light bulbs to all of its Shareholders. This includes those living in Anchorage and across the country.

The first two phases focused on rural Alaskans. The cost of living in rural Alaska is steep, especially the price of goods and energy. This is one way TKC can help alleviate some of those costs. During the first phase, TKC installed more than 10,000 LED light bulbs in the homes of all Shareholders in the TKC region. The second phase brought light bulbs to rural areas outside of the 10 communities within the TKC region.

“Something as simple as swapping out old incandescent light bulbs for new LED ones provides our Shareholders with important cost savings,” said Andrea Gusty, TKC’s CEO and president. “Our corporation is always looking for ways to support Shareholders living in the region and those living across the country.”

The Brighter Future program won’t stop at lightbulbs. Collaborating with some of the brightest energy-minded people in the state, TKC leadership is working to develop a strategic energy plan for our region. TKC is working with the Office of Indian Energy and other state-wide partners to assess and prioritize needs, inefficiencies, as well as potential solutions in our villages.

The Brighter Future Project is one of the many ways TKC supports its Shareholders. The corporation provides dividends, scholarships, advocacy efforts and culture workshops. TKC also offers assistance to Shareholders who need help with CARES act paperwork. And through the corporation’s Fire Safety Initiative, TKC has provided fire extinguishers to rural fire departments and homes.
