by Joey Valadez

B.V.E.S.A.’s Annual 8-on-8 Mud Volleyball Tournament is set for Saturday, July 15th in Bethel, Alaska. For those not familiar with B.V.E.S.A., it stands for the Bethel Volunteer Emergency Services Association and is the 501c3 Non Profit Organization that supports the Bethel Fire Department.

Aside from the New Years Eve Fireworks show, BVESA is also recognized for providing monetary aid to fire victims, assisting with fire prevention education, and assisting paid staff respond to fire and medical emergencies.

This event is open to the public for anyone 18 years of age or older. All players must sign a waiver to participate. This is typically an all day event going from about 11am/noon until approximately 7pm depending how well your team does. This is a true double elimination tournament. The event will start with round robin style matches to determine seeding so every team is guaranteed at least 5 matches or more! No volleyball experience required. This is a community friendly event and all are welcomed to come watch and support the cause.

For up to date info on the event including location, please check out the “Bethel Beach Volleyball” Facebook page. Entry fee for the tournament is $20/player or $200/team with all proceeds going to B.V.E.S.A. We’re also looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with the event.
