AVCP Regional Housing Authority (RHA) successfully moved six homebuyers into newly constructed single-family homes in Mertarvik, Alaska. Located in the southwest portion of the state, Mertarvik now serves as the new home for displaced former residents of Newtok, a village being severely impacted by climate change. Recognizing the urgency of the relocation process, AVCP RHA prioritized assisting with the move.
Mertarvik symbolizes hope and resilience, highlighting the importance of community-led efforts and government support in addressing the impacts of climate change. Through our Home Mortgage Program, AVCP RHA’s Development Department initiates the construction of new units.
Once the units are ready for move-in, Intake Specialists conduct an application drive within the community and select candidates based on eligibility criteria. After identifying eligible candidates, Occupancy Specialists offer the units and oversee the move-in process.
AVCP Regional Housing Authority is committed to bringing sustainable, affordable housing to more remote communities in the Y-K Delta, ensuring that everyone has a place they can call home.
