Alaska State Troopers received a report of a person in distress in the saltwater off the beach of Nash Road in Seward on June 4, 2024, at 10:53am. It was reported that a person in waders was having trouble staying above water. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the area and Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded and recovered the body of an unidentified adult female. Initial attempts by Troopers on scene to identify the woman were unsuccessful. The State Medical Examiner’s Office took position of the body and made positive identification as Cynthia Arca, age 47 of Anchorage. Next of kin has been notified. Condolences to her family and friends.
