
Regional high school cross country runners raced at the ACS 3K Class Challenge on Friday, September 10th, 2021.
For the 9th/10th class race, Ace Hill of Chevak ran the 3,000 meters race in 11:18.7. He finished 12th overall. Liam Green, also of Chevak, placed 39th, with a time of 12:57.4.
Madden Cockroft of Bethel finished the course in 12:01:4. He placed in 23rd position. His teammate Liam Phelan completed the race in 28th place, his time was 12:11.2.
Sheldon Smith, Paul Dyment, and Ned Peters – all of BRHS – finished in 33, 34, and 35th position. Gustof Erickson, also a BRHS Warrior, placed 51st.
Aniak’s Richard Murphy placed 36th, his time was 12:36.3. His teammates Troy Morgan and Nicholas Kameroff finished in 41th and 52nd position, respectively.
Gregory Fallon of Kenai Central won the race, his time was 10:19.1.
In the 11th/12th grade division for the boys, BRHS’s Landon Smith finished as the top runner for Bethel. His time was 11:20.4. His teammate Peter Crow came in at 11:32 in 22nd place. Charles Smith, also of Bethel, finished in 45th position, his time was 12:48.2.
Aniak runner Sherman Kalila placed 42nd, his time was 12:27.2. Teammate Ryan Steeves came in 53rd with a time of 13:42.8.
Chevak’s Avron Atchak also raced. His time was 12:53.6, placing 47th.
Preston Merchant of Anchorage Christian took the top spot, his time was 9:54.8.
For the ladies in the 9th/10th division, Maya Komulainen of Bethel finished in 17th place, her time was 14:04.1. Her teammate Jordan Klejka placed 35th, clocking in at 15:25.2.
Chevak racer Angelina Chiklak placed 31st, crossing the finish line at 15:07.4. Mariah Nash, also of the Chevak Comets, finished at 15:33.4, placing 39th.
Two Aniak runners – Cheyenne Steeves and Lanea Phillips – finished 42nd and 43rd. Their times were 16:16.6 and 16:24.5.
Winning the race was Grace Christian’s Kai Waythomas. She crossed the white stripe at 12:11.4.
The girls 11th/12th race had Michelle Atcherian of Chevak coming in 15th place, she finished at 14:01.5.
Senior runners Fiona Phelan, Cadence Cedars, and Alqaq Small of Bethel finished 18th, 26th, and 30th. Their times were 14:20.3, 15:33.1, and 15:44.8.
Jena Boelens of Aniak came in 38th, finishing at 18:39.
Jayna Boonstra, daughter of Todd and Kelli Boonstra – formerly of Tununak, finished in 1st place. Her time was 11:59.8. She races for Kenai Central.
Racers also competed at the George Plumley 5K Invite at Palmer. BRHS varsity came in 17th as a team in a field of 24 for the boys. BRHS varsity ladies placed 18th.
The Bethel Warriors will be hosting the Bethel Invitational XC Race on September 25th, 2021.
