Write-in candidate Naneng concedes in Alaska House District 38 race

Candidate Myron P. Naneng Sr. who ran a write-in campaign for the Alaska Legislature House District 38 has submitted this letter of concession on Thursday, November 10th, 2022.

I, Myron P Naneng, Sr., with this letter would like to congratulate CJ McCormick for his recent election to be the representative for House District 38.

I hope he represents the issues of our region, especially in light of recent restrictions and closures of subsistence fisheries on Yukon/Kuskokwim Rivers while the State of Alaska has continued to allow for commercial fishing on the known migratory routes of chum salmon bound for the river systems that have for centuries provided for our subsistence fishery.

Continued burden of conservation of these valued resources by restrictions and closures cannot continue to be placed on in-river and coastal subsistence fishers of Y/K delta. The intercept fisheries have to share in the burden of conservation of these valuable fishery resources.

We now need to organize our people for the survival of our resources by attending board of fisheries meetings, and North Pacific Fisheries Management Council. I hope that the new representative will work to understand the issues and use knowledgeable people in the region to advocate for our Indigenous people of the region.

Quyana to all who have voted for me during this general election and I will be willing to work with the new Representative of District 38 to have these issues heard and understood by the State of Alaska Governor and the Legislature. Quyana to all who voted for me as a write-in, I knew it would be hard, but to get this message across, I volunteered to be the write-in for the benefit of our people. Quyana.

-Myron P. Naneng Sr.
