Varsity wrestling teams from Bethel Regional High School and Scammon Bay competed at the Top Dog Wrestling Invitational held in Nikiski, Alaska this past weekend.
Gold medalists for Bethel were Cole Iverson (103 lbs) and Claire Dyment (107 lbs), both are freshmen. Iverson defeated Trent Dundas of Cordova for the gold medal. Dyment beat Jessica LaClair, a junior from Soldotna for the top spot on the podium.
The Bethel Warriors placed third overall in the team standings. Coming in first and second were Soldotna and Eagle River. The Homer Mariners came in 4th. Kenai rounded out the top 5 for team results.
Scammon Bay placed 15th overall in a field of 20 teams.
“Kids wrestled tough and represented our school, community and families well,” said BRHS Head Coach Darren Lieb. “Up next for us is the Mountain City Christian Academy tournament in Anchorage.”
