Wrestling squads from all over the state converged at the Mountain City Christian School for a weekend of wrestling in Anchorage, Nov. 1-2, 2024. Girls and boys teams from Bethel, Mt. Edgecumbe, Dillingham, Valdez, Kenai, Wrangell, Homer, Nikiski, Nome, Grace Christian, Seward, Delta, New Stuyahok, Unalaska, Redington (Wasilla), Haines, Petersburg, Chevak, Barrow, Cordova, Sitka, Hutchinson (Fairbanks), Glennallen, Houston, Koliganek, Metlakatla, Nenana, Bristol Bay, Quinhagak, Unalakleet, Scammon Bay, Kotzebue, Aniak, Galena, Newhalen, Tok, Napaskiak, Susitna Valley, Sand Point, Akiachak, Brevig Mission, Buckland, Eielson, Hoonah, Kalskag, Kiana, King Cove, Kivalina, Manokotak, Student Wrestling Development Program (SWDP), Soldotna, South Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Chugiak, Newhalen, Kodiak, Lathrop, East Anchorage, Ketchikan, Eagle River, Bartlett, West Valley, Noatak, Service, West Anchorage, Petersburg, and St. Mary’s joined the host team, the Mtn. City Lions (formerly Anchorage Christian School).
The Bethel Warrior boys brought home the first place team trophy. Coming in second were the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves, Dillingham was third. Chevak placed 18th, Quinhagak was 30th, Unalakleet 31st, Scammon Bay 32nd, Aniak 34th, Napaskiak 38th, Akiachak 41st, and Kalskag was 46th in a field of 51 boys teams.
On the girls side, SWDP came in first. Soldotna placed 2nd, and Colony High School took 3rd in the team standings. Mt. Edgecumbe took 11th, Napaskiak placed 22nd, Bethel finished in 32nd, Scammon Bay and Chevak placed 42nd and 43rd respectively, Quinhagak placed 49th, Kalskag took 54th, St. Mary’s was 58th, and Unalakleet took 60th in a field of 61 girls teams.
