Work hard for your blessings

by Peter Twitchell

In my youth I pushed myself to let things happen in my life, so I asked God Almighty for help for many things.

1. I want to start a rock-n-roll band.

2. I want to go fight fires with a fire crew/BLM.

3. I want to start a band and play at the 3 and ½ Club in Sitka.

4. I want to go work at the Pacific Alaska Fisheries cannery in Dillingham.

When we accomplish one thing God is pleased. All these things were not just handed to me by Creator God Almighty. He blessed me with these things, but I had to work for them everyday.

I often listened to the Guinn Brothers – Johnny and Bobby – in my youth play their guitars, drums, and practice until they learned a song or wrote one themselves.

Bobby Guinn was writing his own material and even offered to teach me how to play the guitar. I too developed the initiative and became adept at penning my own songs. I was blessed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth to translate some country-n-western songs I used to hear my Dad sing when I was a boy.

During the COVID Delta-19 epidemic from 2021, 2022, and 2023 when all socializing stopped and I was home alone. I accomplished all of the above buckling down and working day and night to accomplish my goals.

Back in 2016 when I moved into Anchorage I played bass guitar for four different bands. My own band I named “The Willow Buds”, and I also played with David Chanar’s Band, Carl Jack’s Band, and Louis Demoski’s band, Athabascan fiddlers who came down from the Nenana region.

We still play when invited at the Anchorage Moose Lodge, Carpenter’s Hall, and at the Anchorage Pioneer Home.

God Almighty wants each of us to grow on our own, because he made us.
