Wolves rally past Warriors

The Sitka Wolves reeled off 22 points in the final eight minutes of play and rolled to a 50-46 come-from-behind victory over the Bethel Regional High School Warriors in a non-conference showdown in the BRHS WarriorDome on Friday night.

Sitka, a state qualifier last season, outscored Bethel by a 22-13 margin in the fourth quarter.

Bethel held the upper hand early in the showdown thank to a strong start by Jamin Crow and Lawrence Poe. The two combined for 11 of the Warriors’ 17 first-quarter points and helped power the Warriors to a six-point lead.

Crow, who scored six points in the initial eight minutes of play, finished the games as Bethel’s top scorer with 18. Poe, who sank Bethel’s first three-point shot, scored five in the first quarter.

Daniel Chakuchin also starred for Bethel in the first scoring twice from the field.

Sitka rallied back in the second. The Wolves posted a 13-6 run in the frame and took a slim 24-23 lead into the half.

The Warriors regained the upper hand in the third thanks to a pair of three-pointers. Jarvis Evans and Sinka Williams both nailed treys from the outside to key a 10-6 third-quarter spree. Crow collected the rest of the Warriors’ third-quarter points with a pair of shots.

Bethel held a 33-30 lead at the start of the fourth.

Peter Crow and Max Black continued to highlight the Warriors’ shooting from the outside in the fourth. Both hit treys in the closing minutes and heled BRHS stay close.

Crow closed out the game with six points. Poe and Evans finished with five apiece, while Chakuchin added four.

Morgan Simmic finished as Sitka’s top scorer with 11. He scored seven of his total points in the final eight minutes to spark the Wolves’ late run.

On Saturday, the Wolves won again, 48-33. Jamin Crow scored 15 for the Warriors. Sitka’s Gavin Flores posted 13.
