Warriors host Wrestling Invitational

The Bethel Warriors Wrestling team hosted an Invitational tournament with teams from all over the state participating. Joining the Warriors was Akiachak, Alakanuk, Aniak, Emmonak, Hooper Bay, Kotlik, Kwethluk, Lathrop of Fairbanks, Mountain Village, Napaskiak, Nunam Iqua, Nunapitchuk, Quinhagak, Scammon Bay, Service High School, South Anchorage, St. Mary`s, Student Wrestling Development Program, and Valdez.

Paul Dyment of Bethel won gold in his weight class, 130 lbs. He beat Eli Armstrong of South Anchorage. Coming in third was Jonathan Alexie Jr. of Quinhagak. In fourth was Bohdan Martynowicz of Service High School. Dyment was named the Outstanding Wrestler for this event.

Bethel Warrior Alvino Vasquez won the bronze medal in his weight class (112 lbs.) His teammate Jonathan Oscar placed fourth (145 lbs.) Also taking 4th was Ellis Johnson in the 152 lbs. bracket.

Zahcory Jacobs-McDonald of Bethel won the silver medal (215 lbs.) Reuben Nerby of St. Mary’s placed third.

Quinhagak’s Brenden Brown took 2nd place in the 103 lbs. division. His teammate Daylon Brown placed 4th (119 lbs.) Taking home the bronze medal for Quinhagak was also Jonathan Alexie (130 lbs.)

Jason Ekamrak of Akiachak placed third (103 lbs.) Mt. Village’s Andre Hunter took 4th place.

Nunapitchuk’s Garrett Nicholai (145 lbs.) won bronze.

Scammon Bay’s Adrien Kopanuk finished in 4th place in the 160 lbs. weight class.

Jacob Carmichael of Napaskiak won the bronze medal (189 lbs.) St. Mary’s wrestler David Sipary placed 4th.

Ethan Alstrom of St. Mary’s took third in the 285 lbs. division.

Winning the team trophy were the South Anchorage Wolverines. Coming in second were the Service High Cougars, third was Lathrop. The Warriors placed fourth.
