No on 2 celebrates defense of open primary system.
For the second time in four years, Alaskans have decided in favor of elections that empower every voter. That make candidates compete for every vote. That allow Alaskans to vote for the best candidate, regardless of their party. That ultimately give Alaskans every chance to choose representatives that put people before politics and make Alaska a place our kids will be proud to call home.
No on 2 Executive Director Juli Lucky and Campaign Chair Lesil McGuire released the following joint statement:
“We are thrilled that Alaskans from all over the state with diverse views and different backgrounds came together to preserve the system that empowers voters to elect representatives that will put Alaska first.
We want to thank everyone who worked to protect these hard-won, voter-approved reforms – from the volunteers and organizations who spent countless hours having conversations in our communities to every single Alaskan who voted to protect our freedom to vote for any candidate in any election, regardless of party.
Once again, voters made their voices heard and, once again, voters approved open primaries and ranked choice voting, a system that honors Alaskans’ independence and rewards elected leaders who work together to address the challenges that face our state.
This is truly a win by Alaskans, for Alaskans, which will benefit our state for generations to come.”

Murkowski Issues Statement on Alaska Elections
Following the Alaska Division of Elections’ final tabulation of the state’s ranked-choice contests and ballot measures, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) released the following statement:
I congratulate Representative-elect Nick Begich on his election to be Alaska’s at-large Congressman. I look forward to working with him as a partner in our Congressional delegation and the opportunities we will have to advance Alaska’s priorities in the coming Congress.
To my friend, Mary: working with you as a member of the delegation has been a privilege. You have represented Alaskans well throughout your short tenure, and navigated this journey while facing unimaginable personal tragedy with grace, humility, and determination. Alaska has been made better with your service in Congress.
I’m pleased that our open primary and ranked choice voting system have been retained, ensuring that Alaskans will continue to have a broader opportunity for choice in the electoral process.

Alaska Federation of Natives Thanks Voters and Elected Officials, Emphasizes Unity for a Stronger Future
Dear AFN Member,
The Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the 2024 election and supported the Get Out the Native Vote efforts. This year, AFN aimed to increase voter engagement across the state. Our goal was to inform Alaskans about how and when to vote, and address concerns stemming from lack of access to the ballot box. Your involvement in exercising your civic duty is important for the future of our communities.
The right to vote is a fundamental principle of our democracy, allowing individuals to express their beliefs and influence the government, regardless of political views. Every vote matters and participation in elections is essential for ensuring that diverse perspectives are heard and represented in our government.
Engaging in the electoral process not only honors the sacrifices made for our freedoms but also helps shape a future that reflects the collective will of the people. Embracing our right to vote is vital, as it reinforces to our government that every citizen plays a crucial role in our democratic system, contributing to a more inclusive and responsive government.
An essential component of this inclusivity is the preservation and support of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), which ensures that elections better reflect the preferences of our communities. RCV empowers individuals to rank candidates in order of preference, reducing divisiveness and encouraging broader representation in leadership.
RCV fosters coalition-building, ensures that elected officials have majority support, and provides voters with greater confidence that their voices are heard. RCV continues to be a crucial step to strengthening our democracy and ensuring that every Alaskan has a meaningful say in shaping our shared future.
We want to extend our gratitude to those who have stepped forward to run for office. It is not easy and requires a tremendous amount of hard work and time. AFN congratulates all our elected officials in the Alaska State Legislature, U.S. Congressman-Elect Nick Begich, and President-Elect Donald Trump. AFN looks forward to working together to find common ground on several issues, including responsible economic development, broadband deployment and expansion, and ensuring our communities can prosper for future generations.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to U.S. Representative Mary Peltola for her sacrifice and tireless advocacy for Alaska. Her dedication and leadership continue to inspire our communities. Thank you, U.S. Representative Peltola, for working hard for all Alaskans.
As we approach 2025, it is clear that advancing the interests of our communities requires unity and a shared commitment to common goals. Together, we must prioritize supporting both rural and urban communities, ensuring public safety so that every individual can live free from violence, pursuing voting reforms that guarantee equal access for all voices, uplifting and protecting our traditional hunting and fishing rights, and ensuring Alaska Native people have a seat at the decision-making tables. Achieving these goals demands partnership, trust, and a willingness to set aside differences to focus on what unites us. By working together, we can create meaningful progress for the future of our state, and we are committed to being a partner in this important work with our newly elected officials.
Thank you for your commitment. Together, we can build a better future for Alaska.
Best regards,
Benjamin Mallot, President
Alaska Federation of Natives
