In November it will be ten years the YK Fitness Center and pool has been open. For decades now the YK Delta Lifesavers has put money from all their fundraisers and donations into the YK Lifesaver Endowment fund. Once the pool opened in 2014 this Endowment Fund has supported swim programs and community access opportunities.
Today the Lifesaver Endowment Fund has grown to over $378,000 dollars. Like other Endowment Funds the Lifesavers hope is that it will continue to grow and support the swimming pool forever.
The fund is housed and investments have been managed by Bethel Community Services Foundation since 2008. Their web site is bcsfoundation.org.
After figuring out inflation proofing and averaging out 5 year growth, the 2024 funds available are $16,350.60 half which has already been spent. This far exceeds expectations thanks to annual contributions to the fund.
Since 2014 the Lifesaver Endowment fund has contributed over $100,000 to swim programs. Programs it has supported include, Free Teen Swim Wednesdays, Free Elders Fridays and Half price Saturdays, the Bethel Swim Club, swim lessons, Jesuit volunteer memberships, and TWC Thrift Store swim suit sales.
It has also supported underwater camera training for BSAR and flooding and fire evacuees to Bethel, clean up green up efforts and reading programs at the library and more!
