Toksook Bay Islanders win LKSD Mixed 6 District Tourney

The Toksook Bay Islander Mixed 6 volleyball team are the Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) champions and will be representing the Alaska Coastal District at the State Mixed 6 Volleyball tournament in Palmer, AK December 5-7, 2024.

The Alaska Coastal Mixed 6 tournament was hosted by the Nightmute Nighthawks.

Placing second was the Akula Tundra Fox team. The Tundra Foxes also won the team GPA Award.

Coaches voted to award the Sportsmanship Team Award to the Akiuk Grizzlies.

“Thank you to the teams for attending the regional tournament,” said LKSD Student Activities Coordinator Sharon Wegner. “Thank you to the Negtemiut School for putting on and hosting a successful event.”

The Toksook Bay Islanders will be making their second appearance at state for Mixed 6. They first went in 2021. They also won in 2022, but they could not make it to the state tournament due to weather.

Also headed to the state tournament are the Emmonak Huskies representing the Yukon River Conference and the Aniak Halfbreeds representing the Greater Kuskokwim Conference.

The Tuluksak Wolverines hosted the Greater Kuskokwim Mixed 6 Volleyball Tournament. The Academic Award and the Sportsmanship award was awarded to the Tuluksak Wolverines. The runner up for the team awards went to the Kalskag Grizzlies.
