“The Harder the Battle, the Sweeter the Victory” Akiachak High School Mantra

Akiachak High School hosted the graduation for seniors and eight grade students on May 3, 2024, in the Akiachak School gym. The procession of graduates was followed by Yup’ik dance performers and Ataat Charles. The audience was welcomed by the Superintendent of the Yupiit School District, Scott Ballard. In his welcoming address, Mr. Ballard emphasized the board vision to embrace and encourage Yup’ik language and culture in the schools.

Board member Melanie Kasayulie expressed her gratitude to stand before the audience and graduates, explaining her journey as a child, and now adult/mother/daughter reared in the Yupiit schools. Roxanne Nose, paraprofessional, introduced each eighth grader with a heartfelt message about each, when they were under her guidance. Helen Jackson spoke to each senior with advice for their futures.

Representing board members was Lillian Alexie.

Junior High Salutatorian Arriana Ekamrak, and Valedictorian Cadence Diamond stood before the audience, wishing all of the graduates good luck in their upcoming high school years.

Presentation of diplomas and certificates and was given out by Principal Barron Sample and Helen Jackson, mother, grandmother, coach, and paraprofessional.

High school Salutatorian Kaylee Phillip and Valedictorian Reign Nose gave thanks to their parents, grandparents, siblings, and teachers for all their help along the way.

Eighth grade graduates included were: Raelena Albrite, Jamie Alexie, Jordan Charles, Mason Charles, Allie Chingliak, Cadence Diamond, Mackenzie Egoak, Ariana Ekamrak, Leah Ekamrak, Peter Fox, Carson George, Ava Howard, Raiden Jackson, Lucas Kinegak, Cayson Lott, Ralph Noatak, Jaylene Peter, Raydon Wassilie, Elizabeth Smith, Lloyd Wassilie, and Sheldon Philip.

Seniors included were Reign Nose, Kaylee Philip, Jason Ekamrak, Brennan Paine, Shanley Ekamrak, and Raylene Henry. 

Reign Nose received the UA scholarship for high GPA.
