The greatest gift to Native Alaskans was LOVE, a century before statehood. Eskimos stressed “Love” be practiced from childhood. Therefore, the act of “Love” as in “Love your neighbor as yourself” was taught to children by the Elders of all native Tribes.
This was a beautiful teaching in Rural Alaska. Therefore, it was practiced from childhood on to adulthood and Elderhood.
The greatest gift to Alaska’s Tribes by the Elders who always worked together, hunted and provide food and warmth to their people for centuries is “Love”.
The greatest gift from the head of the household to his family and mankind is “Love”. Love is everlasting. Only if it is practice by everyone, love and the act of love is passed on to the next generation.
We have to forgive man, those who hurt us in order to move on in life. Love is like an investment which can grow and prosper. When we allow those who hurt us to take our hearts, hate becomes a predominant emotion which will hurt and devour us if we allow ourselves to be full of hate! A young African boy stated, “Then they’ve won.”
Hatred unfortunately is a human emotion. In my 75 years I’ve allowed hatred to overshadow me. I learned to say, “I messed up.” I’ve also learned to own up to my mistakes and move on! Conquering crisis and moving into the light of pure joy, happiness and freedom of hurt.
Like Newsman Lester Holt says, “Take of each other and yourself.”
