Teen takes child home to keep her safe

A 1 ½ year old child was found safe after a massive search was launched in Bethel to find her after her mother found her missing.

On June 19, 2017 at approximately 0722 hours, Bethel Police Department received a call from Jerilyn Ulroan wanting to know if the Police picked up her one and a half year old daughter last night, because she was drinking and couldn’t find her.

Bethel Police Department issued public safety announcements, and applied for an Amber Alert. Bethel Police Department put together a search party that consisted of Bethel Police Officers and support staff, Alaska State Troopers, Bethel Probation Officers, Office of Children’s Services, Bethel Search and Rescue, City of Bethel Personnel, and multiple volunteers from the community.

The child was later located safe and sound inside of a residence on the 200 block of City Subdivision.

Upon further investigation Bethel Police learned that a 15 year old female had seen the mother passed out with the child outside of a residence on the 400 block of City Subdivision and took the child home with her to keep her safe.

The child has been placed in Office of Children’s Service’s custody and criminal charges for Jerilyn Ulroan are being referred to the Bethel District Attorney’s Office.

The Bethel PD would like to thank their partnering agencies and the citizens of Bethel for their assistance in locating this child.
