Springer fills Hoffman’s former seat on council

Mark Springer

The Bethel City Council appointed Mark Springer to fill the vacant seat left by former council member Nikki Hoffman. Hoffman resigned after having her baby last month. Councilman Springer took his oath of office during last Tuesday’s city council meeting.

There were three qualified applicants interested in the open seat – Springer – a former council member, Naim Shabani, and Mary Nanuwak. All three were present at the April 25th, 2017 regular city council meeting.

Present for voting at the meeting was Mayor Rick Robb, council members Leif Albertson, Norman Ayagalria, and Fred Watson. There was no objection from council to proceed with an appointment during the meeting.

Each candidate gave a statement and then proceeded to answer questions from council. Council member Albertson asked them if they would be running in October. All three stated that they would be running again in October when their seat was up for re-election.

During first round of voting Springer received 3 votes from Mayor Robb, and council members Ayagalria, and Watson. Shabani received one vote from council member Albertson. During second round of voting all votes were cast for Springer. His term will be up October 2017.
