Special Session to begin this week

I’ve lived on the YK Delta since 1987. To put it mildly, political news reporting sucks, out here. What you hear or read is either so bland or one sided that all reality is lost on what’s actually happening in Juneau or our local City Halls.

Monday the 16th starts the second Special Session of our Legislature. Why? Well, a lot of reasons got us into this very expensive waste of time. Hmmm, like all these little issues that have been festering like a pimple on your nose for the last six years, which is the obvious pimple the majority in the Legislature uses a filter, to hide from you.

They’ve learned just like a pretty girl on Facebook, a little or a lot of filtering, gets them a lot of likes. Facts, integrity and Alaska Statute be damned if it gets in their way of doling out the money to their campaign contributors.

Is it the lie that they can’t afford to pay a FULL PFD or PCE? No. They can. They’ve filtered the fact that in the last two years they moved $8 Billion from the people’s side of the column, to the legislator’s side of the column, to where that money, which should have been paid out as full PFD’s, is now only generating interest from earned income, which they get to spend on their favorite Special Interests. In other words, your family doesn’t matter.

In the last six years, what they can’t cover with a filter is the glaring fact that the NUMBER ONE ISSUE THIS WEEK IN JUNEAU IS, LEGISLATIVE SPENDING RESTRAINT. We all know that ain’t happening!!

Don’t expect much of anything in the People’s favor to happen in this special session. Don’t expect them to put the PFD and PCE on the 2022 Ballot, cause the House Majority wants to eliminate the PFD. Expect more of the same, like a cut in your PFD. Remember, you’re each owed $3768.00 this year.

We’re about to find out exactly what “ROBUST PFD” really equates to. Rep. Zulkosky and Rep. Bryce Edgmon voted against putting a FULL PFD AND PAYBACK in the house budget, which failed on a 20/20 tie.

Elected officials should be there to serve their people

I know that a lot of you feel like your vote and voice doesn’t seem to count, but it really does. I often feel like (and wonder) if my letters make any difference but I have been getting thanked lately for writing.

The only way you will ever get a say in anything is if you vote or go to meetings and speak your opinion. Otherwise, how are they to know how you feel? In order to be heard you need to go to the meetings and say your piece of mind…

As a child growing up my parents would attend all the different kinds of meetings. A few of the times I would go along with them and sit and listen. It seems like most all of the adults attended then… This is the reason why people don’t bother to attend meetings anymore.

As a person you try to attend whatever kind of meeting you’re interested in. Or, a meeting that you feel you need to go to to express an opinion on one of two of their subjects. Will they let you voice your opinion? Probably not… You are not within this panel or people around these tables – therefore your voice doesn’t’ count.

I’m sorry I’m using a lot of periods but I’m trying to make a point or two. Mainly that YOU DO MATTER. Your vote does count…

My parents – on meeting days – went to work, came home, made sure we were fed, then went to the meeting. If they had to go back the next morning to finish what was on the agenda they did. Seems like at 8 a.m. they’d start again. The meetings lasted until midnight. How could that be? You ask. Those people on those councils took the time to listen to what people had to say. I say you people are soooo full of it.

You people are voted in by the people. It is your obligation to listen to what any of your people have to say to you. Every single person is supposed to matter to you… you guys seem to be making a good point of not being able to do much except put the monies that could be used on something worthwhile into your pockets. Don’t you feel guilty about it? That’s not what we trusted you for when we voted you in.

Are we now beneath you that we don’t get the time of day? Or is it, we don’t matter to you? Only – stealing money that you can’t take to your grave.

Wow – so much for being able to think we can trust those people who supposedly are there so that we might benefit from their expertise. Sure – expertise in putting money into their pocket.

Take care you all. Be safe.

Support for Lisa Murkowski

I normally don’t get too political, but Donald Trump struck a nerve when I heard he was trying to influence our elections. Lisa Murkowski, love her or not love her, is what is best for Alaska. For rural Alaska. For Alaska’s women. Even I, a staunch supporter of Bernie Sanders, know that Lisa Murkowski is what Alaska needs as a leader. Dan, not so much. Dan Sullivan has followed Donald Trump. Donald Trump only endorses those who pledge their loyalty to him.

I absolutely commend Lisa when she voted to impeach. Lisa Murkowski makes me proud to be an Alaskan. I hope Lisa does get re-elected. So, I implore you, dear Reader to make the Right choice. Choose Lisa Murkowski to keep fighting for Alaska. I urge all you young voters to do your own research. Think for yourself. Alaska needs Lisa. Go and vote! And get vaccinated too!
