Scammon boys, girls cruise to wins

The Scammon Bay High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams nailed down key wins this past weekend during tournament play.

The Scammon Bay boys pounded out three wins during their outing, including a 68-42 win over Mountain Village and a 41-30 decision over Emmonak on Friday. On Saturday, the Eagles soared to a 59-24 victory over Mountain Village.

Kiah Charlie and the Scammon Bay girls improved to 11-0 with wins over Emmonak, Mountain Village and Marshall.

“It was a total team effort,” said Scammon Bay head coach Herschel Sundown. “Every one of the players we took scored and played good defense for us.”

On Friday, the Lady Eagles kicked off a bust weekend of action with a 91-31 victory over Emmonak. Kiah Charlie and Robin Hunter powered Scammon Bay to the win. One of 10 SCHS scorers in the game, Charlie tallied 35. Hunter added 19.

Later on Friday, the Lady Eagles notched a 128-31 victory over Mountain Village. In the win, Scammon Bay had four players reach double figures in scoring. Charlie led all SCHS scorers with 45 points. Myra Kaganak added 37 more, including 21 via seven three-point shots. Denae Ulak and Sabrina Rivers added 12 and 11, respectively.

The Lady Eagles finished off the weekend with an 85-35 decision over Marshall.

Against Marshall, Kaganak pumped in a team-high 24 points. Charlie added 21.
