I live in Elderly Housing so when I heard the Mount Spurr volcano may erupt, I asked if someone, a maintenance worker perhaps, could tell us what I needed to do to prepare for volcanic ash should Mt. Spurr erupt?
Another elder told me, “They tell us to fend for ourselves.”
My son Danny told me he was using painters tape to cover the window edges, so I did that.
I have a couple vents in my apartment and so I settled with cheesecloth to put over those vents. I put multiple layers of cloth praying no volcanic ash will enter my apartment.
That sums up what I’ve done in the event of a volcanic eruption! I heard that volcanic ash can “create smog and poisonous gases for low lying areas, making it hard to breathe and irritating the skin, eyes, nose and throat. Volcanic ash can travel hundreds of miles and cause severe health problems.”
I pray that the homeless will be housed properly by Anchorage and supporting areas.
I further read that “volcanic ash can contaminate water supplies , damage machinery, and reduce visibility.”
“Alaska, Hawaii, California, and Oregon have the most active volcanoes,” but that other states and territories have active volcanoes as well.”
