Public hearing announced for Unit 18 Moose

A public hearing is scheduled for 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Qanirtuuq Corporation “Red Building” in Quinhagak, to receive public testimony on a Wildlife Temporary Special Action request received by the Federal Subsistence Board.

Wildlife Temporary Special Action request WSA19-01, submitted by Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, requests that the moose hunt area in the portion of Unit 18 south of and including the Kanektok River drainage to the Goodnews River drainage be expanded to south of the Eek River drainage to match the existing State hunt area boundary.

WSA19-01 also requests that within this newly described hunt area the Federal public lands closure be rescinded and that a Sep. 1–Sep. 30 season be opened with a harvest limit of one antlered bull by State registration permit.

At this meeting, the public will have an opportunity to provide testimony to representatives of the Federal Subsistence Management Program. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this meeting in person or by calling the telephone number provided below. When prompted, enter the passcode. Comments will be forwarded to the Federal Subsistence Board for consideration on this Wildlife Temporary Special Action request.
