Protect subsistence salmon

As a former member of the Alaska Board of Fisheries and the North Pacific Management Council, I am concerned about the salmon interceptions. And the Donlin Gold Mine – that will destroy what is left of the Kuskokwim salmon. The State gives 60,000 king salmon for trawlers to catch. That should be a violation of state law to give away salmon with no authority. The first people who supposed to be given salmon are those who need them to eat.

Governor Dunleavy – the salmon intercept fishery is catching all the salmon going to the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers. Don’t stop Fish & Game from protecting the salmon that is coming back.

Murkowski issues statement on latest GDP Report

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce released data showing real gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 0.9 percent in the second quarter of 2022, following a decline of 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2022. Two consecutive quarters of GDP decline indicate the U.S. economy is in recession.

Between falling GDP, rising interest rates, high gas prices, the highest inflation in four decades, stagnating wage growth, and warning signs in the workforce and housing markets, there is no question that our economy is troubled. The Biden administration has a responsibility to face that head on, not to try to redefine what it means to be in a recession, Senator Murkowski said. The current economic reality is hurting American families and businesses. This is not the time to spend or tax hundreds of billions more; it is time to start approving common sense development projects like Willow that will help bring down inflation, create jobs, and return our economy to growth—at no cost to taxpayers.

We are in a recession

Following the announcement by the Bureau of Economic Analysis that U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 0.9% in this year’s second quarter, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) released the following statement:

According to Biden’s own National Economic Council Director, today’s GDP numbers indicate we are in a recession, Senator Sullivan said. I find it extremely concerning that the White House refuses to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the havoc they have unleashed on American families. Instead, we’ve received mixed message after mixed message – from calling inflation a good thing, to telling Americans they should be happy gas costs over $4 a gallon to trying to redefine the word, recession, the excuses need to stop.

Even more concerning now are the Democrat lawmakers who want to impose even greater burdens on the American people with new taxes and more reckless spending for their socialist wish list — all at the worst possible time.
