Prayer Warriors

by Peter Twitchell

Prayer Warriors are people who pray for individuals going through some tribulation in their lives, and it could be poor health or reoccurring health issues, illnesses, relationship problems, money problems, behavior problems within families, like kids who are headed to juvenile delinquency because of behavioral problems.

A church for example, could have a network of people who do just this. They pray for an individual as need presents itself.

I for one believe in the power of prayer, because in 1983 I had an affliction of my body that the doctors couldn’t put a finger on, all tests indicated normal, but the next thing the doctor ordered for me was an MRI.

After four months of tests with no results, I was scheduled to go into Anchorage to get a brain scan to see if I had a brain tumor, and I was scheduled to go on the Monday morning jet to get this done.

It was July and I decided to take a walk down 3rd Avenue in Bethel. I didn’t mind the dust bowl in Bethel, that day was sunny and hot and very calm. I walked past AVCP’s Tugkar Building and turned left on the intersection heading up main street past the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Only when I was across the street from the church, I heard gospel singing, and it reminded me of going to choir practices with Mom when I was a boy in Bethel.

Something told me to go into the church. I proceeded to walk across the street, climb up the steps of the church and open the door from the outside. I opened the door and saw Pastor Paul Jenkins standing at the front of that church. He said, “Anyone who wants prayer, come up right now, and we’ll lay hands on you and pray for you.”

I closed the door behind me and walked straight up to the front of the congregation. At which point Pastor Jenkins invited all the prayer warriors to come up and pray for me. He asked me what my prayer request was. I told Pastor Jenkins my hands and feet were dead numb now for 4 months, and the doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me.

First Pastor Jenkins and the Prayer Warriors put some olive oil on their fingertips by tipping a miniature bottle of olive oil. There must have been a dozen or more prayer warriors who laid their hands on me, at which time Pastor Jenkins came face to face with me and told me.

“Peter, we can’t heal you, only God can heal you, so I want you to pray with us for healing.”

A minute went by as we prayed and I felt heat on my head migrate down to my feet. When they were through praying for me, others were coming up for prayer and healing, so I decided to go home and get some sleep for my morning trip into Anchorage for tests.

The next morning I woke up feeling rested but something was different. The feeling had been restored to my hands and feet! I decided then and there that I had been healed and a trip into Anchorage was no longer necessary.

I went to the hospital and found the doctor who had made the referral for me to see a specialist. I told my doctor that I had been healed. He told me, “You can still go in and have the test done.” I told him it was no longer necessary, and my physical problem never occurred again.

Today I have become a Prayer Warrior and have seen results of prayers for others.
