Permits available for Kuskokwim moose hunt RM615

by Greg Lincoln

Moose hunting season is here in GMU 18. Here is a message to all hunters from the ADFG:

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game would like to remind hunters to get their RM615 Kuskokwim registration moose permits. This year they are available at vendors until August 25 and online through September 25, 2017. Permits and hunting licenses can be obtained at http://hunt.alaska.gov.

The RM615 area includes the Kuskokwim River and its drainages within GMU 18. The Hunt is divided between two zones. Zone one is expected to be closed by emergence order when quota is reached. Zone two will remain open from Sept 1, through September 25 2017. Bag limit is for antlered Bull Moose by registration permit RM615.

This will be the eighth year of the hunt (RM615) for antlered Bull Moose in the Unit 18 Kuskokwim Area hunt area. The moose population in this portion of Unit 18 is estimated at approximately 2100 moose. Hunting begins on September 1. Hunters are reminded to report their harvest within 72 hours to the Bethel ADF&G office. Unsuccessful hunters and hunters that did not hunt need to report by October 15, 2017. Hunters with questions about this hunt should call (907) 543-2839.

And in honor of the upcoming hunt, here is an article by one of our students about his first moose. Safe hunting and blessings.
