COVID-19 booster available for eligible people who received Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine

by YKHC Staff

October 27, 2021: Following approval by the FDA and CDC late last week, YKHC is offering booster shots to all eligible individuals who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

To receive a booster shot, people who received the Moderna vaccine should be six months or more past their second dose and meet the following eligibility: age 65 and older, any Alaska Native age 18 and older, healthcare workers, people with conditions that put them at high-risk for infection, and any person likely to be exposed to the virus in the workplace, including but not limited to, teachers, cashiers, taxi drivers, law enforcement, pilots, airport staff and individuals in a congregate setting.

All people age 18 or older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months ago are able to receive a booster shot.

With this new approval, boosters are now recommended for all three COVID-19 vaccines. To learn more about boosters for those who received the Pfizer vaccine, please visit https://www.ykhc.org/statement-on-pfizer-booster/.

YKHC strongly encourages all eligible individuals to receive a COVID-19 booster, which has been shown to increase protection against the virus, including hospitalization and death. Booster doses are not authorized for children under age 18.

The CDC’s approval now allows individuals to “mix and match” vaccines for their booster, meaning a person may receive a booster of the same vaccine they originally received or get a different vaccine as a booster.
