New Bethel Public Safety Chief takes oath of office

Under Special Order of Business, the new Bethel Chief of Public Safety James Harris took the Oath of Office during the July 23rd, 2024 City Council Meeting.

Acting City Manager Lori Strickler administered the Oath.

“James Harris started working for us July 1 of this year and he was hired to be the Chief of Public Safety – the administrative oversight for Police and Fire,” said Acting Manager Strickler. “We wanted to share his oath with the public and the council and welcome him into the organization.”

“I am honored and thrilled to stand before you today as the newly appointed Chief of Public Safety here in the wonderful City of Bethel. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support and trust in appointing me to this crucial role. Public safety is a collective responsibility that transcends individual departments and sectors. It is imperative that we acknowledge and embrace the interconnectiveness of all areas of the city government and ensuring the well being and security of our community. Every department, every agency and every individual plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe and secure environment for all residents,” said Chief Harris. “Over the coming months I am committed to collaborating closely with the City Manager, the dedicated teams of the police department and the fire department, as well as with all other government and civilian agencies. Together we will work tirelessly to not only establish but also maintain the highest standard of public safety in Bethel. I am excited about the journey ahead and I am confident with our collective efforts and shared commitment we will make Bethel a safer and more secure place for all who call it home.
