Nenana Fire Department reported a female had fallen into the Tanana River on 8/13/21, at 1417 hours. The incident occurred at the Port of Nenana. Prior to the FD & VPSO arrival, community members were able to locate a rope rescue ring buoy and throw it to the female, allowing her to be rescued from the river. Investigation determined a 34 year old female from Fairbanks’ dog jumped in the river. The pet owner jumped in the river after the dog. The female was able to rescue her dog but was unable to get out of the river due to high concrete walls. It is estimated she was in the water for ten minutes prior to the ambulance’s arrival. The female was treated for hyperthermia and transported to FMH. AST would like to thank the community members who assisted with the rescue prior to the FD arrival on scene.
