Congratulations to Cheyenne Chikigak from Alakanuk and Anchorage, she is the new 2023 Miss Cama-i. She was crowned on Saturday night of the Cama-i Festival last weekend. There were four contestants. Participants joining Chikigak were Alicia Fisher of Kasigluk, and Alicia Oscar and Sophie Swope of Bethel. The runner up was Sophie Swope.

Miss Cama-i is back after being on hold for a few years.

“Miss Cama-i is a cultural ambassador whose mission is to build leadership and community involvement among people of the YK Delta and beyond,” wrote Miss Cama-i organizers.

Judging was based on a personal interview, an essay response, and introduction to the Cama-i Festival crowd. Miss Cama-i is an eighth or more Alaska Native or a member of a federally recognized tribe. She acknowledges, accepts and signs a sobriety and drug-free pledge, and never has been married to have had any children.

Chikigak will be representing Cama-i at the World Eskimo Indian Olympics in July in Fairbanks, Alaska.
