The Alliance for Aviation Across America today (May 7th, 2025) applauded Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy for officially proclaiming May 2025 as “Aviation Appreciation Month” in the State of Alaska. The proclamation recognizes the unique and vital role aviation plays in connecting communities, supporting economic development, and ensuring the well-being of Alaskans across the state.
With about 82% of Alaska’s communities inaccessible by road, general aviation is critical for access to medical care, emergency response, transportation of goods, and local commerce. The state also boasts more pilots and aircraft per capita than anywhere else in the country and is home to some of the busiest cargo operations in the nation.
“Aviation is not just a mode of transportation in Alaska—it is a lifeline,” said Devin Osting, interim executive director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America. “From rural connectivity and cargo transport to tourism and emergency medical access, aviation supports nearly every facet of life in the state. We commend Governor Dunleavy for his leadership in recognizing the essential role aviation plays in the lives and livelihoods of Alaskans.”
Aviation contributes an estimated $3.8 billion annually to Alaska’s economy and supports more than 35,000 jobs. The state is also home to a strong network of aviation-related institutions, including flight schools, maintenance providers, and spaceport and unmanned aircraft operations.
