A Bethel grand jury returned an indictment today (Oct. 15th, 2024) for 20-year-old Shaquille Carawan. Carawan was indicted for two counts of Murder in the First Degree, four counts of Murder in the Second Degree, and three counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Carawan is charged with causing the deaths of 18-year-old Novely Rivers and 18-year-old Abigail Olson on Oct. 2, 2024, in Hooper Bay.
Carawan will be arraigned on Oct. 16 at 3:00 PM in Bethel Superior Court before Judge Peters. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Carawan is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
