Man arrested at Anchorage Airport for attempting to transport narcotics

Investigators assigned to the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team contacted a suspicious passenger attempting to travel to rural Alaska on March 31, 2022 at approximately 9:00 am. During their investigation, Troopers discovered approximately 56 grams of heroin, 3 grams of methamphetamine, and a handgun in the passenger’s baggage. The value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be over $55,000. The passenger, 29-year-old Anchorage resident Esteban Almada was arrested on charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon II. Almeda was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex and held without bail. The Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team is an Alaska State Trooper-led drug interdiction task force staffed by Investigators from the Alaska State Troopers, the Anchorage Police Department, the North Slope Borough Police Department, the Anchorage Airport Police Department, and the Sand Point Police Department.
