Lodging needed for flight crews

by the Alaska Division of Forestry

With the increase in current fire activity in Alaska, numerous aviation resources have been ordered to support the firefighters on the ground. These aviation resources play an integral role in the firefighters’ overall success during fire suppression activities. Aviation orders are being placed and filled daily for incidents. However, logistics for the pilots and their flight crews are posing a challenge to the local firefighting operations. This is where we need your help.

With summer travel months upon us and an increase in this year’s visitors to Alaska, pilots and their flight crews are unable to secure adequate lodging near airports to support their rest needs. Lodging can be found in other locations throughout the state but the long travel distances between lodging and airports is decreasing flight time, and is limiting the amount of time the pilots can assist the fire fighters on the ground.

The Alaska Division of Forestry is in need of help. In the Mat-Su area we are looking for similar services to a hotel or vacation rental. Suitable quarters could include hotel rooms, vacation rentals by owner and bed and breakfasts for the pilots, air crews and aviation mechanics. If you are able to host a pilot or their flight crew, please contact (907) 761-6250 or email [email protected]. Thank you for your help in this time of need.
