LKSD Regionals XC Championships

The Lower Kuskokwim School District hosted the 2021 LKSD Regional Cross Country race in Bethel last Saturday morning. Runners braved the 29-30 degree temperatures while race fans cheered. Coming in first place was Jasmine Simons of Toksook Bay. In second and third were her teammates Rosemary Tass’aq Henry and Irene Chakuchin. Finishing fourth and fifth were Glenneha Carl and Autumn Nevak of Mertarvik. In sixth was Albertina Tunuchuk of Chefornak.

“It was so cold my arm got numb,” said girls champion Jasmine Simons at the finish. She said she had a good race.

For the boys Chefornak runner Matthew Panruk II took first. In second was Sean Lupie of Kongiganak. Third place finisher was Raymond Chanar of Toksook Bay, followed by his teammate Felton Albert. In fifth was Brayden Abraham of Chefornak.

The top 5 in each division will be headed to the State Cross Country Finals in Anchorage to be held on October 9th, 2021 at the Bartlett High XC Trails. Congratulations runners!
